There's nothing we enjoy more than welcoming visitors. Meeting the entry requirements and formalities in the Azores is essential for a hassle-free entry.
It's a fundamental requirement to have a valid identification document in good condition for all cases. The remaining entry requirements differ depending on the country of origin of the passengers. There are basically three rules:
- Passengers coming from the Schengen Area;
- Passengers coming from countries outside the Schengen Area who do not require a visa;
- Passengers who require a visa.
In addition, minors who are not accompanied by their parents must have a travel authorization from their parents, in addition to their identification document.
If you're traveling with money or monetary values in amounts equal to or greater than 10,000 euros (or equivalent in another currency), you must declare them to Customs.
Schengen Area
Passengers of Schengen Area nationality can enter the Azores with a valid identification document or passport. Passengers who, although not nationals of a Schengen Area country, travel from another Schengen state do not require a new visa, as it is considered an internal flight.
The Schengen Area comprises the following countries:
Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Croatia, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland.
Countries that do not require a visa
For countries that are exempt from visas to enter the Schengen Area for stays that do not exceed 90 days, a passport valid for a period of more than three months after the end of the stay is required. Below you can find a list of countries that do not require a visa.
Passengers who require a visa
Passengers originating from third countries, in addition to a valid passport for a period of more than three months after the end of the stay, who do not travel from a Schengen country, are required to present a visa. The visa can be requested at the Consular Post or Representation of the country of origin. You can check below the list of countries that require a visa.
If you travel with dogs and cats
If you are from the Schengen area, make sure they are identified with a microchip according to ISO 11784 standard using HDX or FDX-B technology, have a health certificate, and are up-to-date with vaccinations.
For countries outside the EU, it is mandatory to make an Arrival Notice. Check for more information at: https://www.dgav.pt/vaiviajar/conteudo/animais-de-companhia/
